What's with this Llama frenzy stuff ?

Journal Entry: Fri May 21, 2010, 10:16 PM
I wasn't there when it began, and I admit I really don't get it !

Does it mean something ?

If yes, then what ?

Is it of any use ?

And so, how come ?

Must I cheer up when I get one ?

Can I afford to give some to other people ?

Is it just another meme ?

Please answer me, I NEED to know !

  • Mood: Alarmed
  • Listening to: my womb growling
  • Reading: Ultimate Wolverine (vs. Hulk)
  • Watching: the drying-machine
  • Eating: Nicotine and Paroxetine
  • Drinking: Tangerine

J'aime beaucoup les réponses. :)
A mon sens c'est aussi subtil et représentatif que les amis sur fessebook.
Eh ! Tu veux devenir mon copain, hein ! Dis, hein !
C'est plus ou moins un indicateur de popularité, pas très intéressant en somme...

essentially, if i can break it down for u, what is important about llamas is giving them 2 me, :iconjones-z-kitty: or giving them 2 my buddy, :iconurban-barbarian: its also very important NOT TO GIVE ANY LLAMAS WHATSOEVER to :icondevilpig: outside of that, that's really all u need 2 know about llamas! thanks! :)

I think it's because llamas are funny. lllama llama llama. It's just DA trying to be cool. It's nothing important. Ignore it.

I think it's just a current obsession.
It was Aliens before.
Now it's llamas.
Who knows what it will be next.
Fastmax Featured By Owner May 22, 2010
"big Buffalo chips", that's what's next. :)

I don't know.
All I know is that since the start of the day I have gotten 4 llama badges.
Fastmax Featured By Owner May 23, 2010
And now that "they" know we hate them... "they're" after us.

So how many of them do you have? And is your page or gallery doing any better?
In fact, clicking on the "Llamas" opens a dialogue box.
Does it say who "Llama'd" you???

My point is, seriously, ...what real good is it versus those other long ago and more direct means of communication (comment boxes, private messages, art critique boxes, emoticons, image rating system) don't already afford us?
Are we loosing the power of speech, of forming original thoughts, of really talking "one on one" with another breathing human being afront you; in the information age, we be reduced only to talk by holding up scratched out graphic symbols afront one another?

Are we creating and advocating an "ineducation society"?

Is the new generation, this "tech generation", really that dumb??

Hmm... that does bring up an interesting question.

Will the new generation, which will be more tech savvy than any generation before it, be incapable of natural human communication? Are we going to a point where all conversations will be done in portions of 250 characters or less? Will the sending of an emoticon to someone mean more than than a visible human emotional display?

If we get to that point, then I will fear for humanity.

I see them to be a subtly ingenious marketing technique by dA. They introduced the 'points' system recently, which is all about actually purchasing (with real moneys) valueless tokens to give to other artists. This was never going to be an easy system to make catch on and become popular, so the free Llama badge was introduced and users were encouraged to give them out to the artists they love.
This might just have been designed to get people keen on the whole idea of giving each other useless - and more importantly, valueless - tokens of appreciation. In essence, it might a way of getting almost completely arbitrary funds coming in, though this could just be my conspiratorial nature kicking in...

In all the time you've been a member... have you known who manages this website, as in a clear name/and corporate title and postal address?
If not, why should such information be "hidden".

Beware the "Industrial-Military complex". :D

it started on april fools... thats about as much as i know about it
loraxxx Featured By Owner May 21, 2010  Hobbyist Digital Artist
they are useless, cost nothing to give, and serve no practical purpose, and that is why i would like you to give me one...

I don't get it either. Calling someone a llama used to be an insult, it evolved from calling people lamers > lamas > llamas. Now they're cool? Damn kids and their memes.
Peebo-Thulhu Featured By Owner May 21, 2010
I, for one, respect out new Llama Overlords.
Ultra-Sempai Featured By Owner May 21, 2010
It was originally an April Fools joke, but became popular as a method to interact with other DAers by viewing their pages, and exchanging a "gift". They are free to give and get. There is no monetary value associated with them. If you get one, it means someone thought your page looked cool, and may now be a watcher :) So yes, do cheer up when you receive one. You could even give one back :)

In light of the new DA version 7 and the reasoning to it having been created, ...doesn't these "Llamas" stress/ tax upon" those vital computing resources" we could use?

They're about as useful as "emoticons".
And does not this site now already have enough technical media to communicate with other members?

Answer me this: How do I/you ..get rid of them?
If the answer is "You can't" ..then that's a problem, in my view here.

Think of this people,.. what does it take, in terms of computing resources from DA, -to generate and forever manage the "Llamas".
Is it a necessary expenditure of computer resources?
Do we all really need this distractive graphic imagery to clutter up our computer screens. What's next? "Buffalo chips" to say you hate someone's artwork and at what size across your screen or page is that going to take?

This ultimately boils down to -who and how this website is "MANAGED".

Don't we already have "commentary" and "Art critique" boxes to use -to truly "really communicate" our thoughts and opinions with?

The joke is long over.

llamas grant you UNLIMITED POWER and allow you to zap people with sith lightning. The more llamas you get, the better your zapping powers become. Hell, I use mine to heat up cheese wiz for my nachos.

leviadragon99 Featured By Owner May 21, 2010
It doens't mean anything really... it's jkust a popularity contest/Llama-type level up system, it's pretty irrelevant so you can safely ignore it.
